DOOA Terra Plate A flat ceramic plate made from the same highly porous Terra Base material, engineered for easy plant attachment and exceptional moisture control in terrariums and paludariums. The Terra Plate's moderately rough surface allows mosses, ferns, and small epiphytes to attach naturally, while its high water absorption capacity keeps plants hydrated. Rear grooves ensure airflow when the plate is placed flat against a wall or substrate, preventing anaerobic conditions. Key Features: - Terra Base Material: Same water-absorbing, evaporative-cooling ceramic as the cylindrical Terra Base - Rough Surface Texture: Promotes natural root and rhizome attachment without adhesives - High Absorption: Stores water internally and releases it slowly to keep attached plants moist - Rear Ventilation Grooves: Channels on the back allow air circulation when the plate is mounted flat, preventing stagnation and rot - Flat Profile: Easy to mount on terrarium walls, paludarium backgrounds, or as a horizontal substrate platform Applications: - Moss Walls: Attach Taxiphyllum, Fissidens, or tropical Sphagnum for living green walls - Epiphyte Displays: Mount miniature orchids (Pleurothallis, Masdevallia), ferns (Pyrrosia, Microsorum), or bromeliads (Tillandsia) - Paludarium Backgrounds: Create vertical planting surfaces for emersed aquatic plants (Bucephalandra, Anubias) - Horizontal Platforms: Use as a moisture-retaining substrate base for small terrariums or Wabi-Kusa compositions Setup Instructions: 1. Soak the Plate: Submerge in water for 24–48 hours to fully saturate the ceramic 2. Attach Plants: Use DOOA Terra Line or Terra Tape to secure plants to the plate until roots attach naturally (typically 2–6 weeks) 3. Mount the Plate: Hang using DOOA Terra Plate Hook (sold separately) or place horizontally on substrate 4. Water the Plate: Mist the surface regularly or set up a drip/trickle system to keep the ceramic moist; the plate will distribute water evenly to attached plants Why Terra Plate? Traditional moss walls and epiphyte mounts rely on inert materials like cork bark, driftwood, or plastic mesh—none of which actively manage moisture. The Terra Plate's porous ceramic absorbs water and releases it gradually, mimicking the bark of a living tree or a moss-covered rock face. This reduces the need for frequent misting and creates a more stable microclimate for delicate plants. Rear Groove Design: When mounted flat against a surface, the grooves on the back of the Terra Plate allow air to circulate behind the plate. This prevents stagnant, oxygen-poor zones that can lead to root rot or anaerobic bacterial growth—especially important in high-humidity environments. Hanging & Mounting: - Vertical Mounting: Use DOOA Terra Plate Hook (sold separately) to hang the plate on terrarium or paludarium walls - Horizontal Placement: Lay flat on substrate or hardscape as a moisture-retaining platform - Custom Installations: Drill small holes (if ceramic allows) for wire or fishing line mounting in DIY terrariums Maintenance: - Weekly: Mist or water the plate to maintain moisture levels - Bi-Weekly: Check for algae or mineral buildup; gently scrub with a soft brush and water if needed - Monthly: Remove and rinse the plate to prevent salt accumulation from fertilizers or hard water Compatibility: - DOOA Terra Plate Hook (for hanging installations) - DOOA Terra Line (for securing plants) - DOOA Terra Tape (for moisture-wicking plant attachment) - DOOA System Paluda 300/600 - Custom terrariums and paludariums Dimensions: Check DOOA specifications for exact plate size to ensure fit in your setup.
